Youth Acrylic Painting Workshop - 4 week Course

  • Mid-Willamette Family YMCA 3201 Pacific Blvd SW, Albany, OR 97321 (map)

The Mid-Willamette Family YMCA is proudly partnering with We Make Art to bring a Youth Acrylic Painting Workshop to the Y for ages 7-12!

Explore the flow of acrylic painting during this four-week workshop with Miss Britni from We Make Art; whether your child is already interested in art, or are looking for a creative outlet, this workshop is great for all levels of experience.

Each artist will complete one painting per week. They will be done in acrylic paints on various sizes of gessoed canvas. They will be able to lean and implement a number of “elements of art” over the course, furthering their understanding of composition, light source, depth, and perspective.

Week 1: Hot Air Balloon Painting

Artists will listen to “The World Needs Who You Were Made To Be” read aloud. This story written by Joanna Gaines goes on to describe how all children (people) think, learn, and create differently - and that’s okay! As the characters each go about building their Hot Air Balloons (with different methods of course), we will do the same. Artists will explore pattern, color harmonies, and movement as we paint our own Hot Air Balloons.

Week 2: Spring Bouquet Painting

This week, artists will have the perfect opportunity to create a lovely Mother’s Day Gift for someone special in their lives. We will be learning how to create depth, while painting a beautiful Spring bouquet of flowers. Artists will explore shadow and light, layering color, and create balance in their composition.

Week 3: Birch Trees Painting

The sun is shining, trees are blooming; this week, we celebrate by painting birch trees! Artists will re-visit composition, in addition to learning perspective/vanishing point, and light source. Our painting this week will instill confidence in the artist to make bold lines and color choices.

Week 4: Landscape Painting

During our final session together, we will apply all that we have learned and create one final painting. This will be a landscape painting on a slightly larger canvas. Artists will also learn how to show depth using atmospheric perspective, and re-visiting color harmonies on the color wheel.
