The Mid-Willamette Family YMCA is proudly partnering with We Make Art to bring a Youth Art Workshop to the Y for ages 7-12!
Become familiar with the Elements of Art with Miss Britni. Whether this is new-to-you (your little artist!), or a refresh of memory, these projects will take the 7 elements of art and make sense of them.
Each week, students will learn about an essential element (or two!) and put their understating to the test. We will create a completed piece at the end of each session that they will be proud of!
Students will use all sorts of mediums, on all sorts of canvases. This is a wonderful course for kiddos to discover what sort of art & mediums bring them the most joy (while sneaking in a little bit of education!)

Week 1: Color Theory - With the Changing Leaves
This week’s theme is Color & Value. Students will showcase their understanding of color theory through complimentary colors of different tones. Our finished result will reflect the beautiful changes of color that come with the season of fall.
Week 2: Line & Space - Pumpkin Art
With a more simple color palette, we will explore the elements of line & space. Students will use black ink and their choice of a harmonious color scheme to create a Romero Britto-inspired PUMPKIN piece of art! Students will learn how lines of varying weight, pattern, and color can create visual interest. Using the different spaces of their pumpkin to separate their patterns, their piece of art will be unified with their chosen color scheme!
Week 4: Shape & Form
This week, we are using both shape & form to create a mixed-media piece of art, just in time for Halloween. Students will use organic and geometric shapes to sculpt the form of a haunted house. We will also be using layers of collage, and ink detailing. This is a fun art project that helps them exercise all that we have learned this week. They are free to add details that show their favorite elements.
